@ClemDevine
Clem graduated with a Bachelor of Design with Honors from Massey University College of Creative Arts in 2001. Before joining Alt in 2006, he forged his career at Wellington design studios Eyework Design + Production and Mission Hall. Clem has broad experience in designing for artists and cultural institutions on various exhibition and publication design projects. More recently his focus at Alt has been in generating and producing ideas for multi-disciplinary identity and branding projects.
What do you fight against constantly in your work?
We fight the ugliness. Alt works together collaboratively to produce intelligent ideas and driven work that has an impact.
What is the driving force behind the time and effort you spend excelling at your craft?
That we are a small culture at the bottom of the world producing international work. Together we want to help foster New Zealand design culture and project it on a global stage.
What keeps you going when you work late into the evening?
I'm obsessed with design, it's what I like doing.
If you broke your arm, who would you most want to sign your cast?
My late uncle, Les Mason, who passed away at the 2009 AGI congress in Instanbul.
From the Jury:
Clem Devine’s work is distinguished by a surprisingly bold playfulness which makes his projects disarming and approachable but through an angle which is intricate, intellectual and thought-provoking. - Yannis Konstantinidis, YG8
